I am a Vice President and CMO in a large multinational company and I am autistic. We need to talk more about neurodiversity in the corporate world, because it exists… we just don’t dare talk about it.

In the fast-paced and often competitive environment of the corporate world, there’s an unspoken pressure to conform. Success is frequently defined by how well one fits into the established norms and expectations of the workplace. However, what if true success isn’t about conformity, but about embracing the rich tapestry of differences that make each individual unique? What if we embraced neurodiversity in the corporate world?

For years, I’ve navigated the corporate ladder, striving for success while carrying a significant aspect of my identity in silence. As a neurodivergent individual, specifically, someone on the autism spectrum, I’ve faced the challenge of reconciling my ambitions with societal expectations. The pressure to conform can be suffocating, especially for those of us who perceive and process the world differently.

In my journey as a Vice President, I’ve worked tirelessly, climbing the ranks and achieving milestones. Yet, behind the facade of success lies a reality that I’ve kept hidden for far too long. Like many neurodivergent individuals, I’ve engaged in masking — a coping mechanism aimed at blending in and minimizing my differences to fit the mold of corporate culture.

But what if our differences are not hindrances to success, but rather strengths waiting to be recognized and embraced? It’s time to challenge the stigma surrounding neurodiversity and create workplaces where everyone can thrive authentically.

In my video, I share a deeply personal revelation: I am autistic. This disclosure is not just about me; it’s about reshaping perceptions and fostering a culture of inclusivity. Neurodiversity encompasses a spectrum of strengths and challenges, and it’s crucial that we acknowledge and celebrate this diversity in the workplace.

Being neurodivergent doesn’t mean being incapable; it means approaching problems and situations with a unique perspective. While I may struggle with decoding social cues and navigating unspoken rules, my neurodivergence also gifts me with the ability to see patterns and solutions that others might overlook.

Moreover, embracing neurodiversity isn’t just a moral imperative; it’s also a strategic advantage for businesses. By harnessing the diverse talents and perspectives of neurodivergent individuals, companies can tap into untapped potential and drive innovation.

It’s time to break the silence surrounding neurodiversity and challenge the status quo. Let’s create work environments where everyone feels empowered to be their authentic selves, where differences are not just tolerated but celebrated.

My journey as a Vice President and a neurodivergent individual is just one story among many. It’s time for more voices to be heard, more stories to be shared, and more barriers to be broken. Together, let’s pave the way for a more inclusive future, where success is measured not by conformity, but by the richness of our diversity.

Join me in embracing neurodiversity and creating workplaces where everyone can thrive. Together, we can make a difference.
